Selection of essential oils for your skin has to be based on your specific skin type, texture and tone. This is the recommended way to get maximum benefits from them.
Some of the most commonly used generic types of natural oil are cypress, rose-oil, jasmine oil, lavender oil and sandalwood oil.
You can mix them with other skin care ingredients or use them alone for multipurpose skin treatments like massaging, cleaning, moisturizing, face packs, inflammation reduction, wound and injury healing, skin toning and other skin protection & beautification.
Natural Oils for Dry Skin
Dry skin is a condition wherein the water and oil content have been impaired to critical levels. When the condition reaches chronic level it can severely affect the skin with infections, inflammation, bleeding and it may serious types of skin diseases.
Applying natural oils for dry skin helps in restoring the moisture levels, improving immunity, reducing roughness, inducing softness and balancing the levels of skin oil by controlling the activity of sebum, the oil producing gland in your skin.
Natural oils can also help in reducing aging signs like wrinkles, skin shrinking and sagging.
Lavender oil recipe
Lavender oil recipe can be prepared with honey, milk and coconut oil. Add one teaspoon of lavender oil, two teaspoons of honey, and 1/4th cup of milk in a bowl. Mix well. Add one teaspoon of homemade ghee.
You need to heat the mix to moderate temperature. If the mix is getting too thicker you can add more milk to balance it. Cool the mix until it becomes a thick liquid. You must make sure that it does not turn into a paste.
Apply it all over your skin, especially on those parts that are prone to dryness. Let it soak your skin for about 20 to 30 minutes. Then you can wash it off with warm water. This procedure needs to be repeated thrice a week. Your skin will start retaining moisture to considerable levels within a period of two weeks.
Chamomile oil
Chamomile oil has the essential ingredients for softening of dead cells from the top layer of your skin. By mixing it with apple cider vinegar and lemon syrup you will be able to scrub out dead cells and refresh your skin.
You need to take care while scrubbing as it may lead to skin injury. Use a mild form of scrub after making sure that your skin top layer has become soft enough. When dead skin cells are removed, the new skin cells will be able to hold onto moisture content well.
The recipe of chamomile oil, apple cider vinegar and lemon syrup can be prepared as follows.
- Add ½ cup of chamomile oil
- 3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar
- 1/4th cup of lemon syrup in a bowl.
- Mix well and add 1 teaspoon of Aloe Vera for anti inflammation and skin softening.
Apply it onto your skin and let it soak for about 15 minutes. Then use a gentle skin scrubber and scrub your skin. After scrubbing for about 10 to 15 minutes you can wash your skin with warm water.
Give special care to the skin on elbows, knees, legs and feet while applying the lotion and scrubbing.
Organic Oil Ingredients for Oily Skin
Fennel oil
Fennel oil is highly useful for eczema, skin rashes and inflammations due to acne. This needs to be added with vegetable oil in equal proportions and massaged on your skin.
Since the nature of your oily skin spreads all over your body, it is suggested that you massage your skin in face, hands and feet, back and rest of the body.
Once you are through wish massaging let it soak your skin for about 20 minutes. Then you can take a warm water shower.
Grape-seed oil
Grape-seed oil can naturally control the production of oil in your skin. Its main ingredient is vitamin c which is an antioxidant, antiseptic, collagen booster, skin nourishing agent and skin beautifier.
It can be used in combination with olive oil, Neem oil, coconut oil and Aloe Vera gel in equal proportions. You need to apply this mix onto your skin areas uniformly.
Let the ingredients seep into your skin layers for about 20 to 30 minutes. Then you can wash your skin with slightly cold water. If you wish to avoid the stickiness on your skin due to the oils you can mix a few drops of eucalyptus oil with the recipe.
Apple cider vinegar
Oily skin has the characteristic of large pours, with potential threat of blemishes and pimples. Hence you need to consider steps for reducing the pore size. Apple cider vinegar is one remedy for this.
Take two teaspoons of vinegar and two teaspoons of water in a bowl. Mix well and apply onto skin areas affected by large size pores. Let the liquid soak the skin for about 10 minutes. Then you can wash with warm water.
It has to be done for 2 to three weeks to make the pores get back to normal size. Excess oil secretion can be reduced in this way.
Natural Oils for Combination Skin
Treating combination type of skin could be tricky as it has the characteristics of oily and dry skin. T zone on your face is made of oily layers while the skin on hands, feet and other parts could be dry.
When you use natural oils for this type of skin they need to be combined with base oil for
- Penetrating the skin layers. For example vegetable oils help essential oils like agar, birch, chamomile and others to reach dermis and subcutis layers.
- They dilute the essential oils and avoid side effects like irritation and swelling.
- They act as antioxidants and provide vitamins and nutrients to your skin.
Chamomile oil, sandalwood oil, lemon balm oil, grape seed oil, Neroli oil and calendula oil are some of the recommended ones for combination skin.
You need to regularly massage your skin with these oils before taking shower. Avoid hot water for washing skin after you have used the essential oils as it may increase the chances of acne.
