Aging – it’s an inevitable process that we cannot escape. Some accept it more gracefully than others, but not a lot of people are looking forward to it.

This process also brings some issues with it, such as memory problems. Not being able to remember important things in your life is a terrifying thing, but thanks to science, we can do something about it.

Supplements like Prevagen can help deal with memory problems. In this review, we are going to explain to you what it is, how it works, what its ingredients are, what customers say about it, where to buy it and how much it costs.

What Is Prevagen?

To put it simply, Prevagen is a dietary supplement. It comes in a form of capsules or chewable tablets, and what it does is it helps with mild memory problems that are associated with aging. It’s an over-the-counter product, so you can easily obtain it in stores and pharmacies.

Prevagen comes in two versions – Prevagen Regular and Prevagen Extra Strength. Both are taken in the same way, so it will ultimately depend on your preference which exact product you’re going to buy.

Prevagen Ingredients

prevagen ingredients

One of the most important things in every supplement is the ingredient list. Let’s take a look at what exactly Prevagen contains:

  • Apoaequorin – This is the active ingredient of Prevagen. It’s a protein isolated from a jellyfish, namely Aequorea victoria, and it helps improve the ability to recall information.
  • Calcium – Apoaequorin itself contains calcium. This ingredients enhances calcium homeostasis, which is beneficial for combating dementia and cognitive dysfunction.
  • Sodium Chloride – This is simply salt. What it does is it maintains the sodium-potassium balance in your body, so that you would be in optimal shape.
  • Magnesium Stearate – This ingredient is important for cell membrane health.
  • Disodium EDTA – an absorption agent and preservative which can be found in food, but also in beauty products.
  • Acetic Acid – this ingredient helps increase responsiveness to sensory stimuli, which is important for being focused.
  • White rice flour – fine flour made from ground rice. Rice flour is actually gluten free, so it’s even good for those with allergies.

How Does Prevagen Work?

Either in its capsule or chewable tablet form, you won’t have problems digesting Prevagen. The recommended dose is one capsule a day, and after you’ve digested it, the effect begins.

Namely, the apoaequorin releases protein and calcium, which altogether improves sleep quality and memory functions.

This product works particularly well for improving short-term memory, which is a common problem in the aging process.

Prevagen Side Effects

Prevagen side effects

Quincy Bioscience, the company behind Prevagen, claims that there are no side effects when using this product. However, it’s still possible to experience some, either due to one’s specific health condition, or simply due to the incorrect usage of this supplement. Namely, the reported side effects are the following:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Nausea

In addition to this, there were also cases of anxiety, difficulty with sleeping, and memory problems. However, these were less common. As with every supplement, if you’re not sure if this product is right for you, you need to consult your doctor.

It’s important to notice that the side effects are not readily available by the manufacturer, so this is a reason to be cautious when trying out this product.

Prevagen Results

By taking this product, you can expect the improvement of certain aspects of cognitive function. Furthermore, Prevagen is beneficial for short-term memory, and it can also improve sleep quality.

You’ll be happy to know that these effects have been proven in various studies where the participants reported concrete improvement in their overall health.

Also, we should mention that it takes 90 days of use to fully feel the effects of Prevagen.

Is Prevagen A Scam?

Prevagen scam

So far, Prevagen sounds good, but you might be questioning the effectiveness of it all. Maybe you think it’s one of those scams intended to lure gullible people into buying a product that falsely advertises itself.

Well, you’ll be happy to know that Prevagen actually does what it claims, from improving short term memory, to improving sleep quality and other things. Of course, results may vary from person to person.

If you have any allergies or history of bad reaction with supplements, you should consult your doctor. They will tell you if Prevagen is the right product for you and what possible side effects you may experience.

Prevagen Reviews

Prevagen reviews

If you’re still not quite sure about Prevagen, you can easily find out if it’s the right thing for you by simply reading reviews about it. For starters, we should say that the majority of the testimonials are positive, which is a good thing, of course.

For instance, one of the customers said that her ability to recall things quickly had improved noticeably.

I have been taking this supplement for about 5 months now and I have really noticed a difference in a couple of areas.

1) My ability to recall things quickly has improved noticeably. I noticed some definite improvement after the first month of taking Prevagen. However, after the second and third months I was aware that these lapses in memory are much fewer and farther between.

2) I sleep better. I wasn’t having any huge sleeplessness issues, but I have noticed that I wake up feeling like I got a really great night’s sleep and I require less sleep. I don’t feel that need to nap in the afternoon that had begun to plague me daily.

When it comes to Prevagen Extra Strength, one Prevagen feedback notes that this is the first brain supplement that actually works.

This is the first brain supplement that I have taken that works! I actually noticed a change in my ability to recall and access thoughts. I used the Regular Strength for the first 2 months, and then graduated to the Extra Strength. No bad side effect either.

And of course, there are negative reviews, which address different things. For example, one of the negative reviews talks about the side effects. Namely, the side effects after stopping taking the product.

I took this product for 2 months and it really helped my memory recall and curved my forgetfulness. It was wonderful and I loved it! After the 2 months I was out of product for about a week and the side effects were awful! I could not stay focused, 3 times as bad as before I took it.

Prevagen Pros And Cons

Using Prevagen can have great benefits for your mental health, however, not everyone will have the same experience, so it’s worth thinking about positives and negatives with this product. Let’s start with the positives.

Pros:

  • Helps with memory problems.
  • Improves sleep quality.
  • Helps with improving focus.

On the other hand, there are some negatives which may or may not affect you, such as the side effects.  Nevertheless, they’re worth considering.

Cons:

  • Can cause dizziness, nausea and headaches.
  • In more serious cases, it can cause anxiety issues.
  • Can be a bit pricey.
  • Not FDA approved
  • There is no scientific proof for the claims made by Quincy Bioscience

Apoaequorin has been researched extensively, however, in some cases, there isn’t enough reliable information. Namely, its safety for pregnant and breastfeeding women  has not been researched enough, so you should not take the product if you’re in that situation.

How Much Does Prevagen Cost?

When it comes to pricing, Prevagen is not one of cheaper supplements on the market.

  • Prevagen Regular Strength (30 capsules): $40
  • Prevagen Regular Strength (60 capsules): $75
  • Prevagen Extra Strength (30 capsules): $60
  • Prevagen Regular Strength Mixed Berry Chewables (30 tablets): $40
  • Prevagen Extra Strength Mixed Berry Chewables (30 tablets): $60

Where You Can Buy Prevagen?

You can find Prevagen in many retailers such as Target, Kroger, HEB, and many others. This of course, includes pharmacies, such as CVS and Walgreens.

If you’re thinking about where to buy Prevagen online, you can do that through sites such as Amazon, as well as specialized websites that sell dietary supplements.

One important thing to know is that Prevagen is no longer available through the Prevagen website, so you’ll have to look elsewhere to get the version you want.

Prevagen Review: Final Verdict

Now that we have seen what Prevagen is and what it has to offer, you might be wondering if it’s worth purchasing.

First, we should say that this product works and it can really help with keeping healthy brain function. It can also help with focus and the sleep quality. Since it contains natural ingredients, it’s safe for consumption, as long as you stick to the recommended dosage.

With all this in mind, it should still be said that side effects are possible, so be sure to study the product well before deciding to purchase, especially considering the price.

I’m an 82 year old man that would love to try the product, but being on Social Security prevents me from expending this amount of money, especially at a potential $2.00 a pill! That comes to $360.00 to $720.00 per year!

The product is too expensive but I have had excellent results since trying Prevagen. I am a 52 year old woman. I started having memory, concentration and motivation problems a few years ago. I was having problems recalling names. I shared with an English professor friend of mine that I felt I was completely losing my vocabulary. My job requires that I give briefings to groups of staff members. More and more, during my briefings I would lose my train of thought, forget the next sentence or forget regular words I used in the briefings. I was also having difficulty completing tasks and staying on tasks even if I remembered the task. I also had problems organizing and putting tasks in order. I struggled keeping up with discussions in meetings at work and struggled with conversations with family. Sadly, I was suffering in silence. I survived by keeping notes and asking family for reminders. I have purchased many memory aids and none of them helped me. I even tried following an Alzheimer’s protocol I found online which I think helped a little. Six weeks ago, 5 bottles of Prevagen Extra strength was “accidently” delivered to the small convenience store in the building where I work. I decided to give it a try. I committed to 90 days and purchased 3 bottles at once. I felt a difference /an improvement after about 3 days. Now, after six weeks I feel a complete turn around! I test my memory by recalling names that I had forgotten in the past. I’m so happy! I felt I was too young to loose my memory. I’m a believer! My only complaint is the price. It’s pretty expensive. Prior to the accidental discovery, I hadn’t heard of the product. I went online and found a lot of negative comments about the product but I wanted to try it for myself because I had nothing to loose since I was already loosing my memory. I almost feel like leaving phone just to prove I’m a real person. I haven’t experienced any undesirable side effects.

I too have lost words that I used commonly. I’ve always had a very strong vocabulary – have 3 college degrees and worked in the field of education for almost 30 years. Interacted with many students and colleagues and people in general and felt I expressed myself in a clear and concise manner. I began to have some difficulty remembering words and names of people I’ve had work for me. I would hesitate for a few seconds that seemed like hours to me while my mind searched for a word – usually I would try to “cover” my loss by switching to a generic type word. I’ve always written and lot – was taught typing skills and was glad with the work I did. I could type quickly with words coming to mind in a stream as I typed. Now I am constantly misspelling words and have to hit the backspacing key constantly. I should adapt by typing at a slower pace, but it’s difficult to do that when I’ve been creating the words I want to use and type them very quickly. I would give anything for my vocabularyto return and be able to express myself without hesitation and having to grope for another generic type word. Lately, I’ve actually been stopping and doing the uhuhu thing. It’s slowly creating a situation that is beyond my comprehension. I do so hope it doesn’t turn into full blown Alzheimer’s. I’ve just spent 30 seconds trying to spell Alzheimer’s correctly and backspaced at least 10 times on that one sentence. But I DID get a good night’s sleep last night – the only one in 6 months. Didn’t know it could help with Sleep! It sounds like a great product but apparently it isn’t going to work for me.

My 81 year old mom was diagnosed with dementia a year ago. Dad started giving her Prevagen a couple of weeks ago and we have noticed that she is more focused and seems to be managing her daily routine better. She has been taking two different prescription memory meds for a year now and we are praying this supplement increases her quality of life. PERHAPS IF WE ALL CONTACT THE PREVAGEN COMPANY WE CAN GET THEM TO PRODUCE COUPONS!!

I’ve been tested for Alzheimer’s after I had a blackout in July and the cause hasn’t been determined. Had as much testing as could have been done and my nephrologist said he wondered if I’d had a seizure. I asked if that went along with Alzheimer’s and he nodded yes. He is having me come back to see him in 3 months and I mostly see the nurse practitioner. This time he wanted to see me again. Wondered if that is to see if I have had some gradual memory loss. My neurologist had ordered the testing that was done. I failed. He gave me a copy and my children and I went over it thoroughly. They (of course) think that I just have some mild cognitive memory loss (their father is in assisted care for Alzheimer’s)! I saw the commercials for Prevagen on TV and purchased it yesterday at Walgreens. 30 tablets for $40. I took one yesterday evening and one again today. Have had insomnia for 6 months related to discontinuing a benzodiazepine, Xanax. I had taken 3/day for 40 years! For anxiety. I haven’t slept more than 3 hrs continuously since August. Sometimes am awake for 24 hours at a time. Concerned about memory loss. Doctors have prescribed seemingly all the medications for insomnia and anxiety that are on the market including natural supplements. I saw Prevagen in commercials on TV and decided to give it a try. Got a bottle of Extra Strength in Walgreen’s yesterday. Took one pill yesterday evening and another today. I’ve had a Horrible headache and cannot get it stopped. Normally I can take an aspirin and it checks a headache quickly. Not so today! This is a Really bad headache. No side effects listed on the bottle. Not even check with your doctor! I picked up the bottle to move it on the counter and thought maybe I should check the side-effects. Now that I have, I’m really glad I’ve done so. I will stop the pills now and see how quickly the headache will subside. Hope that Prevagen is the cause.

I am a RN who has worked many years in bio-medical services highly regulated by the FDA and am also married to a very intelligent gal who works in the pharmaceutical industry in global medicine development. As I read this article on Prevagen, it is easy to see it’s just a clever add to trick the elderly into using the product. I purchased this product myself and after a couple of months did not have any change in my memory whatsoever. Also, the claim that the active ingredient comes from a jellyfish leaves out the fact it is manufactured in the lab, not extracted from the jellyfish!!

With both parents now gone, both from Alzheimer’s and I am now 62, I’m always looking for some help. Let me state that I have not been diagnosed. (To scared to go in.)So, what you read next might be a placebo effect. You will have to judge. I have been on this product, (extra strength) for almost two years. I do believe it has helped. Why? Because of money issues, I ran out and it was almost two weeks before I could order more. I order from Ebay because the stores here in town are outrageous in price. I DID notice a difference towards the second day without. By the end of the week, it was bad. All this made me wonder if there is something addictive in it. I decided, Yes, and… no. Yes, because its obviously supplying supplements that I’m not getting in a daily diet. no, because its supplying them. So in short, for me, its working but like I stated above, the thought of going out by Alzheimer’s, ( it took almost 5 years each for both my parents to pass,) is terrifying. And, the makers of this product know that. Its why its so expensive. My advice is to save up a bit and order the extra strength 90 days and give it a try.
